ROCC Member and Other Sellers File FTC Petition to Investigate eBay/TCGplayer for Seller “Junk Fees” and Abuse of Monopoly Power

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, May 20, 2024, ROCC Co-Founder and Director of U.S. Policy Amanda Lewis filed a petition calling for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to open an investigation into the online trading card game platform TCGplayer and its parent company, eBay Inc., on behalf of ROCC Member DJ Johnson and eight additional third-party sellers. The petition alleges that eBay/TCGplayer has violated Section 5 of the FTC Act and federal antitrust law, citing sellers’ “serious concerns about eBay/TCGplayer’s apparently deceptive and anticompetitive conduct,” which includes illegal monopoly maintenance, anticompetitive rollups, and overcharging sellers and consumers through unfair and deceptive “junk fees.”  The Capitol Forum published an article on the petition which can be found here.
