ContinueWASHINGTON, D.C. – On September 20, 2024, the Responsible Online Commerce Coalition (ROCC), along with Public Knowledge, submitted a comment to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Department of Justice (DOJ) Request for Public Comment on Corporate Consolidation Through Serial Acquisitions and Roll-Up Strategies.
In the submission, ROCC and Public Knowledge note the increasing number of partnerships, acquisitions, and acqui-hires of artificial intelligence (AI) companies by Big Tech companies. ROCC and Public Knowledge express concern that these actions are likely going to reduce competition in AI markets and increase barriers for entry.
The groups call for the DOJ and FTC to investigate the impact of these transactions, even if the transactions avoid current regulatory review.
